Judy Estrin previously co-founded three technology companies with Bill Carrico. Bridge Communications, founded in 1981, was a vendor of internetwork routers and bridges that went public in 1985 and merged with 3Com Corp. in 1987; Estrin served as engineering vice president and executive vice president of Bridge, and later ran the Bridge Communications Division at 3Com. Network Computing Devices, a maker of X terminals and PC-UNIX integration software, was founded in 1988 and went public in 1992; Estrin started with NCD as executive vice president and became CEO in 1993. Estrin served as CEO of Precept Software from the company’s 1995 founding as a maker of streaming video software. When Cisco Systems acquired Precept in 1998, she became Cisco’s chief technology officer until April 2000. Estrin has been named three times to Fortune Magazine’s list of the 50 most powerful women in American business. She sits on the boards of directors of The Walt Disney Company and The Federal Express Corporation, and is the author of an acclaimed book on the challenges to innovation in the United States--Closing the Innovation Gap. She holds a B.S. degree in math and computer science from UCLA, and an M.S. in electrical engineering from Stanford University.
Jack Bradley joined Packet Design in March of 2001 and has over 20 years of executive management experience at high technology companies including positions as general manager of the International Division of 3Com, acting CEO of NCD, and director of the Video Services Business Unit at Cisco. In addition, Bradley has held CFO positions at Precept Software, Blaze Software, Network Computing Devices and Bridge Communications. Bradley has a BS degree in Finance from the University of San Francisco.
Yogen Dalal has entrepreneurial and operating industry experience coupled with leading-edge engineering expertise, which he leverages as he focuses on working with early stage enterprise software and infrastructure companies in the Mayfield portfolio. Prior to joining Mayfield, Yogen was a founding member of two successful startups, Claris Corporation and Metaphor Computer Systems. He was also a member of the original Star and Ethernet development teams at Xerox and a co-developer of the TCP/IP protocols while at Stanford University. Yogen holds a PhD. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from Stanford, and a B.Tech. in Electrical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay
Wes Raffel, General Partner, Advanced Technology Ventures
Wes Raffel has dedicated the past three years to ATV helping companies structure business in the ever changing and constantly challenging technology sector. He utilizes his broad industry experience to interpret market conditions and identify subtle opportunities for his companies, further contributing to their long-term success. Prior to ATV, Raffel served as vice president and general manager at Informix where he was responsible for the company’s Web and e-commerce business. He also held positions as acting CEO and senior vice president of sales and marketing at AssureNet Pathways, and vice president of sales and marketing at Global Village Communication. He spent nearly ten years of his career with 3Com. Raffel’s most recent role with 3Com was as vice president of intercontinental operations where he focused on helping the company grow its non-European international business. Raffel holds a BA degree from Harvard College where he graduated Cum Laude, and an MBA from the University of Chicago.
Stephen K. Smith has more than two decades of experience as a venture capital investor and equity analyst covering technology companies. Prior to joining Masthead, Mr. Smith spent sixteen years as a top-ranked Wall Street analyst for PaineWebber, Inc.
Prior to working at PaineWebber, Mr. Smith spent six years in the computer industry, first with British computer manufacturer ICL, and then with the management consulting firm of Booz, Allen & Hamilton, where he consulted to the financial services industry on technology-related issues.
Mr. Smith holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and a First Class Honors Degree in Computer Science from Brighton Polytechnic University in England. He is a director of C/Base Inc. (Ecount) and serves on the boards of Bitpipe, Tizor, and Packet Design, LLC, all Masthead portfolio companies. He is also a board member of Maine's Small Enterprise Growth Fund. Mr. Smith is an active member of CommonAngels, a Boston-based group of active angel investors who are mostly founders of successful New England high technology companies. He also founded and subsequently sold High Tech Catalysts Inc., an investment banking firm and licensed broker-dealer.
