Lead QA Engineer

Packet Design is looking for a Lead QA Engineer.

Packet Design, Inc. is pioneering the emerging field of IP Route Analytics. Route Analytics leverages the inherent intelligence in IP to provide network operations with the critical information they need, when they need it, enabling them to view, troubleshoot, and plan their IP network. Our products solve problems for industries such as mid-large enterprises, service providers, education, and government, improving network availability and performance while reducing operating costs.

Position Description/Responsibilities:

As a Lead Quality Assurance Engineer you will be responsible for creating, implementing and automating testing across multiple components of route analytics tools.  The Lead QA Engineer will design, document and implement test plans for new projects, report and manage defects, regress software fixes for new and existing products, assist development with replicating and debugging problems and develop test automation solutions as needed.  The successful candidate will possess strong technical and programming/test automation skills, strong knowledge of Linux systems, have experience testing Networking Products and familiarity with IP technologies.

Specific Duties Include:

  • Design, develop and implement comprehensive QA test plans and test cases, tools and infrastructure for assigned areas of the route analytics product lines.
  • Design, develop and implement complex test automation both at the functional and system level. Run regression tests and perform both white and black box testing against releases of the Traffic, VPN and Route Explorer product lines.
  • Perform all aspects of verification, including functional, structural, regression, stress, stability and system testing.
  • Document, troubleshoot and isolate problems encountered during testing.
  • Work with other members of the Packet Design QA team to improve our processes, tools, methods, effectiveness and efficiency.
Required Skills:
  • BS/MS in Electrical or Computer Engineering or BS/MS in computer Science or related and professional work experience.
  • A minimum of 7 years cumulative experience of testing commercial software with 3 years experience in automation.
  • Possesses strong technical and programming/test automation skill as demonstrated by 3+ years development of complex automation infrastructure and test cases with industry standard products: Knowledge of Shell/Perl/Python/Tcl scripting.
  • A strong technical background coupled with in-depth experience testing under Linux/Unix.  Knowledge of testing Network Management systems is a plus.
  • Experience with/knowledge of networking and strong background using and Programming IXIA generators.
  • Extensive background in QA methodologies and experience developing and executing comprehensive test suites for system software.
  • Ability to troubleshoot software/hardware configuration problems.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle/organize multiple complex technical projects simultaneously and use bug tracking systems.
  • Ideal candidate will have strong analytical and trouble shooting skills, as well as excellent written and verbal communications skills
